Using contemporary art as a lens\, participants will investigate the relationship between words and images\, and experience how the language we use to describe something can shape the understanding of others. \nThis workshop is organized around four verbs: describe\, contrast\, transform\, and complicate. Through four connected sessions\, educators will examine how creators build meaning through observation and description\, the use of contrasting elements\, the transformation of ideas across media\, and moments of ambiguity or contradiction. Contemporary art offers a way for students to make these abstract concepts visible and provides teachers with new ways to support close reading\, strengthen vocabulary\, and help students make intentional choices in their own writing and artwork. \nEducators will leave with practical teaching strategies\, classroom-ready activities\, and a fresh perspective on using art to create and interpret meaning. \nEducators from all grade levels and subject areas are welcome.\nDesigned around ELA and Visual Arts standards for Middle School and High School\, the workshop emphasizes inquiry\, critical thinking\, creativity\, and literacy. \nParticipants will receive: \n\n0.8 CEU (includes a pre-assignment)\n$100 stipend for participating in the program\nMileage reimbursement ($0.50 per mile)\nMorning coffee\, breakfast pastries\, snacks\, lunch\n\nFor questions\, please contact Alex Brown\, NCMA WS Director of Programs & Audience Engagement\, at alexander.brown@dncr.nc.gov. \n					\n				\n									\n						\n															\n									Apply Now								\n							\n													\n\n													\n								\n									Share:
