Overview
If you’re missing House Hangs while the Hanes House is closed, join us for Park Hangs, a brand new concert series at Bailey Park.
NCMA Winston-Salem has teamed up with Innovation Quarter to offer unique, laid-back hangouts with local musicians and easygoing vibes, reminiscent of House Hangs events at the Hanes House. Join us to unwind and socialize with live music at Bailey Park, with food truck service beginning at 5:00 pm and live music from 6:00–8:00 pm.
Kicking off the new series is Blue Cactus, hailing from Chapel Hill, NC. After getting started in honky-tonk, the band developed a twang of its own that pulls from folk, alt-country, and rock ‘n’ roll to create a sound that connects with audiences around the country.
About Blue Cactus
Brimming with cracked-open honesty and electrified twang, Blue Cactus has become a leading force in modern country and roots music. Led by songwriters Steph Stewart and Mario Arnez, the group’s third album, Believer, showcases Stewart’s instinct for cadence and lyricism, evoking Emmylou Harris’ spacious storytelling and the dusty Southern folk melancholy of Gillian Welch. Meanwhile, Arnez holds space for each song, tending the soil with layered folk textures, genre-hopping arrangements, and bittersweet hooks.
Recording in the buzzy indie-folk scene of their home in the Piedmont of North Carolina, and later among the country sheen of Nashville, TN, Believer‘s songs transform and journey through genre and mood. The result is a shock of color and energy, with the album blooming as delicate, prickly, and bold as a field of wildflowers.
