Portable Gallery

Connecting local students with local art & artists

NCMA Winston-Salem’s Portable Gallery is an outreach program providing students with greater access to the arts by bringing original works by North Carolina-based artists directly into local classrooms. The Portable Gallery is available to visit schools in Forsyth County and surrounding areas at no charge.

The program is easy to use and intended to introduce students to new ideas and perspectives. The ever-expanding collection features works by artists from across North Carolina, giving students the opportunity to see works made by professional artists who look like them or have shared lived experiences.

Teachers can select up to three works from the Portable Gallery to visit their classrooms. NCMA Winston-Salem’s education team works with teachers to design experiences and activities around the artwork that align with their curriculum while placing emphasis on student-driven discussions.

The Portable Gallery is for more than just art classes. Museum staff can help create arts-based lessons that provide students with new ways to learn about math, science, social studies, literature, and more.
